Our Story

This project is the story of two brothers, Dan and Randy Kalish. In growing up together, they were innately best friends. After becoming musicians in their high school years, it only made sense that they would eventually band together to write and play music. After 10 years or so of playing around in various short lived music projects, they finally decided to take on the creation of an album on their own. So with many years in the making, they began the recording process for their debut album in the beginning of 2015. However, in May of 2016, at the age of 29, Randy abruptly passed away...  

Phantom Limb is the continuation of this story. The band's name, being defined as a sensation that a missing limb is still in fact there, was born out of this situation. In 2019, Dan finished and released their debut album, Beauty In Chaos, which features music that both brothers collaborated on, before and after death. The album name speaks to this process of learning to not just live again after having the ground ripped from beneath your feet, but to actively seek the beauty in each and every moment of the storms that beset us all. 

Even in death, Randy's energy continues to permeate through the veil, as Dan integrates both new and old ideas into Phantom Limb, allowing Randy to be an ongoing partner in the writing process.  

Beauty In Chaos is dedicated to the memory and spirit of Randy Kalish. We love you beyond all time and space, brother.
